So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
This blog is intended as a record of painting Shakespeare’s sonnets: 154 paintings, one for each sonnet.
The idea of painting Shakespeare’s sonnets has been originally inspired by Helen Vendler’s book, “The Art of Shakespeare’s sonnets”: she analyzes the sonnets in a way which seemed to me to open the possibility of translating them into the language of colours, lines, and visual images.
With each poem, having learned it by heart and immersed myself into it, I try to go the place where the difference between art forms disappears, and return with a painting, linked to the sonnet both semantically and formally.
