Practice 3.2.B. 3D Geometry

Using what you learn while making your 3D schemes of the pictorial space, return to the “geometrical” compositional sketches of Module 2.

Make a new compositional sketch of the painting, paying attention to how the major geometric shapes and construction lines are “distributed” within the pictorial space. Are they located on a single plane? Do they “connect” different planes? What does the “3D” view add to your understanding of the geometry of the picture plane?

Like in the last week’s drawing practices, this is a simplified sketch — only major geometric shapes, but with a particular attention to their location within the pictorial space, their “3D” quality.

This post is a part of online program, “The Making of a Painting Masterpiece”.
